Benefits of attending fair/expo are real
By Jeannette Tulis
As you probably know from our many reminders, our Curriculum Fair/Home Education Expo is coming up July 22 and 23 at Camp Jordan Arena.
Our expo here in Chattanooga has grown to be one of the biggest in the state. However in the past two years our attendance has been down slightly which is surprising, given the growing numbers of homeschoolers. With the growth of the Internet it is easier than ever to order all your books, supplies and curriculum online.
In spite of this we would really like to encourage you to plan to attend this year’s expo.
The cost is still a paltry $3 per subscriber or THEA member family for the two-day admission, $6 for non-subscribers / members.
Gary Hargraves is requesting that all parents of rising seniors have a representative at the fair to attend the graduation meeting.
Jeff Atherton will be giving a legislative update which is important in guarding our homeschool freedoms.
The curriculum fair/expo is the only place you can subscribe or renew your subscription to Esprit for the reduced rate of $15 for the next year.
This year’s expo has more than 70 vendors, including old standbys to new favorites such as Holy Cow Science, a big hit last year. Even The Olde Bookroom will be returning this year with their out-of-print treasures. Many of the vendors are homeschooling parents who have developed products on their own as they discover what works best. You can get advice from seasoned experts.
Reasons You Should Attend A Homeschool Convention
- You can save money by shopping wisely, comparison shopping and taking advantage of discounts.
- You can examine curricula offerings firsthand and include your child in decisions where appropriate.
- Seeing and handling is better than just viewing on a screen or in a catalog.
- You can meet with old friends and make new ones.
- You will hear and meet interesting speakers and authors of curricula.
- You can encourage the homeschooling leaders in your state, showing your support for their efforts.

The Old Schoolhouse magazine is a fairly new quarterly publication, about 200 pages with an impressive list of contributors including Ken Ham, Diana Waring and Ruth Beechick. It offers in-depth reviews of new products, lots of contests and interviews with curriculum authors. The next 5,000 new subscribers are getting $300 worth of free curriculum from 19 different companies — even the postage of the gifts is paid for.
